Our Faculty of Architecture hosts the Environmental and Urban Planning Research and Application Center and the Housing Research and Education Center, both operating under the ITU Rectorate. Apart from our research centers, our Faculty has also been the gathering point for the Turkish National Committee of Regional Science since 1989.

ITU ENVIRONMENTAL AND URBAN PLANNING RESEARCH AND APPLICATION CENTER

Operating as one of the 9 research and application centers under the Rectorate, the Environmental and Urban Planning Research and Application Center consists of sub-units, as well as their affiliated laboratories and working groups. These working groups comprise the units of Urban Planning, Environment, Architectural History and Restoration, Architectural Design, Physical Environmental Control, and Landscape Planning and Design. The center provides research, application project, and seminar services, and features archives, maps, a research library, geographic information systems, and computer-aided design laboratories.

ITU HOUSING RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CENTER (KAEM)

The ITU Housing Research and Education Center was established in 1998 under the name "ITU TÜBİTAK/İÇTAG Housing Research Unit" in cooperation with the TÜBİTAK Construction and Environmental Technologies Research Group. Since November 2002, it has been continuing its activities in Taşkışla as a center affiliated with Istanbul Technical University. Within the framework of the determined objectives, the center hosts research groups focusing on urbanization; migration and housing policies; housing area planning and design; housing, environment, ecology, and infrastructure; housing technologies, finance, and cost; housing for low-income groups; traditional and vernacular housing; and disaster housing.

TURKISH NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF REGIONAL SCIENCE

The Turkish National Committee of Regional Science was established in 1989 in affiliation with the RSAI (Regional Science Association International) and ERSA (European Regional Science Association) to promote and encourage advancements and studies in the field of regional science in Türkiye. The headquarters of the National Committee is located in the Taşkışla building. The responsibilities of the committee include the following activities: a) Encouraging, conducting, and supporting advancements and studies in the field of Regional Science in Türkiye, organizing scientific meetings, and making scientific publications, b) Joining the "Regional Science Association" as a member organization from Türkiye and representing Türkiye before this association, c) Establishing contacts and relationships with other members, institutions, and organizations of the association and cooperating with them within its goals and capabilities, d) Encouraging studies focusing on tools, methods, and theoretical frameworks designed for regional analysis, e) Encouraging disciplines related to Regional Science toward analytical techniques.
