About Taşkışla

Taşkışla History

It was built between 1846 and 1852 by the British architect Williams James Smith and his assistant, the Ottoman master builder İstefan, as a hospital for the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane (Imperial School of Medicine). During the Crimean War (1853-56), the wounded soldiers of the French, allies of the Ottomans, were treated here.
